MOO

Week 4… Moo situation. The blogs I read on this so far sum it up. It’s just plain confusing. I’m a gamer, and I understand servers, but I don’t understand intricate details of technology. I play the game, not develop it. Sometimes, I manage to crash a computer or glitch a game in the process, but the Moo article(s) I have gone over seem to be redundant on the fact that it is a server. If I’m wrong, then tell me so. I’m assuming it must have been the first server created and that is why the files are kapooshed. Much of the RPG games played with this server were done by typing in the commands; whereas players use hotkeys, voice, and mouse now. The MOO library is a touch of history that we need to remember the further on humans venture with technology. For example, Space Flight: Should we ever live on another planet, we wouldn’t want to forget the day we first set foot on the moon. Now, if someone tells me I’m wrong after that tear jerking line…

I hear you…I’ve got some understanding (not much) of MUD and MOO…but MUSH I’m clueless about. I tried reading about it…understanding it…but I don’t quite get the difference. Is MUSH more text based????

All of the M-words are text based.

They’re the precursors to games like World of Warcraft, Everquest, Runequest, and the like.

They all refer to a kind of server that interprets text entered in different ways.

In the beginning was MUD, which became programmed using object-oriented programming techniques and named MOO. All of them can be used for gaming engines, but typically MUDs are games and are closely controlled by administrative users. The others allow a fair amount of user created content — the game is to build the world, in effect.
